Dear APS Active Members,

In response to the unprecedented challenges facing pediatric leaders, APS has expanded the support we provide to our Members. In May, we offered an all member virtual meeting. In June, in partnership with the SPR, we launched a 10-month webinar series featuring APS and SPR members speaking out on issues critical to pediatric leaders (recordings available here). On behalf of our Members, APS has spoken out against racism and injustice and in support of diversity and inclusion in academic pediatrics.  We are updating our APS mission statement to reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion and are reviewing our bylaws and other guidelines that may also require updates to more fully reflect our values. Again, in collaboration with the SPR, we have shown our support for Dr. Anthony Fauci and his efforts to use science and public health to guide our response to the coronavirus pandemic. We continue to offer Members opportunities for engagement in our areas of strategic focus – thought leadership, advocacy, and career support – and share news about the society through our weekly APS Digest. Our members also continue to receive online access to our official journal, Pediatric Research, published jointly with the SPR and European SPR.

These activities and our support of the PAS Meeting continue despite the significant financial impact to APS arising from the unfortunate but necessary cancellation of the PAS 2020 Meeting. As critical APS programs continue, we remain very grateful for and reliant upon our Members’ ongoing loyalty and robust support.

We realize professional development funds may be more stretched than ever. In recognition of this challenge, for the 2021 membership year, APS dues have been reduced to $375. In response to member requests we also offer the option for members to pre-pay 2022 dues. If you have already paid your 2021 APS dues, thank you! If you have not yet paid your 2021 dues, please take a moment to do so now. If you feel you are unable to remit dues as a result of financial hardship, please contact the APS office.

We greatly appreciate your commitment to APS!

Sincerely,
Steven Abman, MD, APS President
Clifford Bogue, MD, APS Secretary/Treasurer
On behalf of your APS Officers and Council
